ABOUT US

EXCELLENCE AND PROFESSIONALISM

Every table, and I mean this, is created as if it were going into my own home. It's how it all started and I wanted the best, something that couldn't be obtained in a shop since no shops were selling what I wanted to build. Add a few improvements along the way and natures own stunning designs become a home centrepiece reality.

SUSTAINABLY SOURCED OAK ROOTS

ALL of the oak roots I source come from entirely sustainable sources. This means that they are otherwise judged as waste from already felled oak trees and have not been grown specifcally for use in furniture making.

PERSONALIZED APPROACH

All of the tables that I create are unique and like you, or your personal space, will never be replicated anywhere else in the same way. The thickness or colour of the glass, the height or size of the table and even the colour of the wood can all be tailored to create an oak root coffee table just for you.

How I Started Making Oak Tree Root Coffee Tables

At the time of creating the first table back in 2018 we were a team of competition-winning ice artists and I initially bought 3 oak roots in 2017 since I'd always wanted a statement tree root coffee table for myself.

We had the slicing equipment which we already used for ice and with a couple of modifications to the chainsaws and router bed it was just a case of making sure that the roots were sliced level both top and bottom.

As with most learning experiences, YouTube provided a wealth of knowledge and I thank all of the contributors immensely for their knowledge and experience.

The roots are blasted using a 4000psi pressure washer which really brings out the gorgeous golden brown colour which is timeless in it's own right.

I often find that the roots have one side pitted and destroyed by bugs which creates an amazing architecture of patterns - this is water blasted out and then a slice with the chainsaw adds level sections to which I can attach the feet- naturally, I use this as the base side.

Finally, the tree root is treated with bug remover which not only ensures any bugs within are removed, it also means any new bugs are prevented from entering.

My first table I enjoyed immensely and was a massive talking point amongst friends and guests but within 3 months of listing it for sale - more as curiosity than thinking anyone would buy it, it was delivered to it's new owners in Surrey England.

The second root was delivered to Gabon in Africa, the third and fourth to Amsterdam, the next one to New York.

Because tree root tables are so rare there is actually nowhere to obtain a regular supply of decent roots, but over time I've built up a network of ethical suppliers who are willing to offload these amazing artefacts which have quite frankly centuries of timeless life within them.

There are a huge amount of disused WW2 airfields here in Shropshire where oaks were uprooted to make way for much needed runways, the oak was used for fittings but the roots were disguarded and left to rot for the past 80 years..until I find them.

Today we've added candle holders and lamps to the inventory to further decrease the amount of wood that remains as waste after a table has been built.

The name 'Alien Artefact' came from my first view of the first batch of three roots, they looked so alien, and just like an artefact the had been dug out of the ground.

To my knowledge, trees have never gone out of fashion.

Each table created is designed to last beyond the lifespan of it's owner, their children and their grandchildren.
